Dr. Karl Brooks has a breadth of experience that has expanded over a 34-year career in higher education, working in both public and private institutions. He serves as the Vice President of Student Development at Joliet Junior College (JJC). In his executive leadership role, he serves on the Presidentās Cabinet and oversees all student development-related programs, services, and accommodations. Before taking on the role of Vice President at JJC in December 2024, he previously served as the Vice President for Student Affairs at Oakton College, Dean of Student Success at JJC, Director of the Student Leadership Institute at DePaul University, and Associate Dean of Students at North Central College.
Recognized throughout his career, Dr. Brooks is an empowering educational leader committed to social justice and equity-minded educational practices. In 2017 the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) honored him with their major national award, naming him The Outstanding Community College Professional. NASPA also selected him to serve as a faculty member for the 2019 National Institute for Aspiring Vice Presidents for Student Affairs. During the 2017-18 academic year, Dr. Brooks completed his tenure as President of the Illinois Community College Chief Student Services Officers (ICCCSSO), and his three years of overall service to the executive team. North Central College honored Dr. Brooks with its Outstanding Alumni Award in Fall 2021 at their Homecoming Dinner. He received the Distinguished College Administrator Award in the spring of 2022 from the International Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society.
Dr. Brooks holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from North Central College, a Master of Science Degree in Higher Education from Drake University, and a Doctoral Degree in Educational Leadership from DePaul
